Doug received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Franklin & Marshall College, and his Master of Science degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Lehigh University. Most recently, Doug earned an MBA degree from Cornell’s Johnson School of Business and the Queen’s University School of Business. He has completed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and hopes to earn his Professional Engineering license in 2010.
Doug started with IMR Test Labs in 2002. Prior to coming to IMR, Doug held engineering positions at Pennsylvania Metallurgical (commercial heat treating) and IonBond (PVD and CVD coatings). In 2008, Doug transferred from IMR’s headquarters in Ithaca, NY to serve as Technical Director for IMR KHA – Portland.
Utilizing his background in Surface Engineering, Doug has helped IMR to become a global leader in the evaluation of coatings used in aerospace and industrial applications. He has served as Chairman for the Thermal Spray Society (TSS) Accepted Practice Committees on Metallography and Mechanical Testing, and he was recently elected to the TSS Board of Directors. In 2005, Doug helped IMR launch the Aerospace Metallography and Coatings Evaluation Training Course. This course has been taught locally at IMR and at customer facilities throughout the world.
Doug is an active member with the Oregon Chapter of ASM International, the International Metallographic Society, and the Thermal Spray Society. Doug frequently serves as an instructor for ASM, and has taught courses on thermal spray coating metallography for students in locations such as China, The Netherlands, and Singapore.
Doug’s hobbies include biking, golf, travel, and helping to raise two beautiful daughters, Emelia and Lauren with his wife Alexis.
