TEMPORARY CHEMIST

IMR Test Labs has an immediate need for a Temporary Chemist in our Ithaca, New York facility.  Qualified candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to hr@imrtest.com by April 23, 2010. 

Position Title:  Temporary Chemist
Reports To:  Chemistry Department Supervisor: Polymer and Specialty Chemistry
Schedule:  Monday – Friday; Core business hours are 8 – 5; 
This position will work in IMR’s chemical lab with other chemists and technicians to perform high quality chemical analyses.  This position entails operation and maintenance of various instruments, sample preparation, data acquisition and reporting, and interfacing with customers and fellow chemists and staff to meet customer testing expectations in a timely and cost effective manner.  

Primary duties and responsibilities include:
• Analyze samples using a variety of analytical techniques.  Analytical techniques may include but are not limited to ICP-AES, OES,  
  Combustion and Ion Chromatography. 
• Perform all work in accordance with proper work procedures and in accordance with IMR safety guidelines.
• Perform mechanical and chemical sample preparations.  Mechanical sample prep will include cutting, drilling and grinding of metal
  samples.  Chemical sample prep will include mainly acid digestions of metal samples and dilutions.
• Data acquisition will include processing data to supplied specifications, processing data according to customer requirements and  processing data for unknowns to appropriate specifications. 
• Assist in keeping work areas clean and presentable. 

Qualifications:
• BS degree in chemistry from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
• One to three years experience in a laboratory, scientific or technical environment.
• Experience with or demonstrated ability in one instrumentation techniques
• Ability to work well in team and communicate effectively with fellow staff members and customers. 

SENIOR CHEMIST

IMR Test Labs has a critical and immediate need for an experienced Senior Chemist.  This position will report to the Manager of Polymer & Specialty Chemistry at IMR’s regional lab in Ithaca, NY and will be a key contributor to this core competency at IMR.

Position Summary:
Independently performs high quality chemical analyses to meet customer expectations in a timely and cost effective manner.  Independent activities include method development, sample preparation, technical consultation, testing, data review and reporting, and training other lab personnel.

Primary Duties:
• Conduct chemical analyses, coordinate the input of other departments and report results in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with proper work procedures and IMR safety guidelines

• Develop test methods to permit effective and efficient laboratory operations.

• Interface with customers on a regular, proactive basis to ensure that the highest level of customer satisfaction is maintained. 

• Exhibit and maintain a high level of technical skill and knowledge.  Keep abreast of new developments in the field.  Serve as a resident expert and a technical resource for others.

• Train other employees within and across departments on test methods, procedures and other practices as required and appropriate. 

• Keep management informed in a timely manner of administrative and technical activities, status of programs and potential problem areas. 

Job Qualification Requirements:
• BS degree in chemistry from an accredited university or equivalent experience.  An advanced degree or graduate study in the field is desirable.
• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in a laboratory environment. Laboratory experience in an industrial setting is desirable.
• Demonstrated proficiency in use of a broad range of instrumentation. Knowledge of several of the following analytical techniques is a plus: IC, FTIR, GCMS, ICP-AES, SEM-EDS, and HPLC. Familiarity with cleanliness test methods is also desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, teach and communicate effectively with fellow technical peers and demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities.
