Mechanical Testing Engineer #3567

Mechanical Testing Engineer

As the Engineer for the Mechanical Testing Department, you will provide engineering support for all mechanical testing at IMR Test Labs in Portland. Perform testing as needed to ensure all testing is completed on time and meets customer and internal quality standards. Ensure all personnel are trained to internal procedures and all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated. Interpret results, develop process improvements, write procedures, conduct internal calibrations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for all mechanical testing
  • Technical expert on mechanical testing and applicable ASTM standards
  • Lead weld testing through review of specifications, development of test plans, and review of reports
  • Review purchase orders through the login process
  • Review/correct difficult mechanical test records and review final reports
  • Work with customers to develop test plans and oversee non-routine testing
  • Write mechanical procedures and ensure proper training
  • Complete audit checklists and ensure areas are always audit ready
  • Provide training and development to mechanical testing personnel. Ensure staff is up to date on new and updated/ revised procedures and standards
  • Lead change and Continuous Improvement activities throughout the mechanical department

 

Your Expertise

Strong technical and interpersonal skills. Solid experience in mechanical testing concepts. Excellent presentation skills, both oral and written.

Education & Experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience in technical role or commensurate experience, working in a high-volume testing or manufacturing environment.
  • BS in mechanical, materials science, or metallurgical engineering
  • Experience working with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Visual Basic experience a plus
  • Weld testing knowledge a plus

 

Working Conditions:

Exposure to medium industrial manufacturing/testing environment. A significant amount of time is spent testing in the lab areas. Exposure to noise, chemicals, high temperatures, and light lifting.

Mechanical Testing Supervisor #3290

Second Shift Supervisor

As the Second Shift Supervisor, you will oversee all 2nd shift operations (3pm-midnight, Sun-Thurs) and supervise two shifts of mechanical testing at IMR Test Labs in Portland. Perform testing as needed to ensure all testing is completed on time and meets customer and internal quality standards. Ensure all personnel are trained to internal procedures and all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.

 Responsibilities

  • Supervise ~8 direct reports in the mechanical department and provide quarterly reviews for all
  • Responsible for mechanical department, which tests over 45,000 tensile samples per year, half of which require next day results
  • Oversee all second shift operations to ensure fast turnaround time and on time delivery
  • Ensure the safety of the personnel in the facility with appropriate PPE, training and assembly aides
  • Work with customer service and other departments to set priorities and daily tasks
  • Review purchase orders through the login process
  • Review/correct difficult mechanical test records and review final reports
  • Organize weekly mechanical department meetings
  • Write mechanical procedures and ensure proper training
  • Complete audit checklists and ensure areas are always audit ready
  • Provide training and development to mechanical testing personnel. Ensure staff is up to date on new and updated/ revised procedures and standards
  • Lead change and Continuous Improvement activities throughout the mechanical department

    • Excellent communication skills

Lab Intern

Location Ithaca, NY

IMR Test Labs Ithaca has an immediate need for a lab intern to assist with customer testing projects for our busy materials testing lab.  IMR provides materials testing for a wide range of diverse industries and this intern position will work across our chemistry, metallurgy and mechanical labs for approximately twenty hours per week. 

 An ideal candidate will have one to two years of undergraduate study in chemistry, engineering or science and some hands-on laboratory experience or related experience.

 As an intern you will prepare samples for testing and perform analyses using various instruments, & prepare samples.  A large part of this role will include formatting data sheets with test results from long term client projects. 

 Excellent proficiency with Excel (advanced or expert), ability to work on multiple projects independently and with a team, and a self-motivated approach to working in a fast-pasted environment are also required.

Machinist - 2nd Shift

IMR Test Labs has an immediate need for experienced machinists to join our team.  We have openings for machinists in our Ithaca, NY location. 

Our machinists perform independent work in the machine shop by operating all equipment according to quality and safety standards and in compliance with company, customer or industry specifications, including:  manual mill, manual lathe, CNC mill, CNC lathe, and saws.  They also operate CNC machines to fabricate parts, provide specimens and fixtures for testing to other departments,   & provide machining services for outside customers as needed.  In addition our machinists interface with customers as necessary to assure that a high level of on time delivery and customer satisfaction is met. If you are interested in a machinist position with variety and diverse work, our materials test labs may be the place for you. 

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, 3 - 5 years of experience in the field of machining, or an equivalent field, with some apprenticeship work, and the ability to read diagrams and related materials.   Experience machining composites is highly desirable.  In addition, machinists must be able to frequently lift, push, and pull objects that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
