As the Mechanical Testing Manager, you will oversee all mechanical testing at IMR Test Labs in Portland. This includes the management of two shifts of technicians, as well as the project-engineering group. Ensures all testing is completed on time and meets customer and internal quality standards. Ensures all personnel are trained to internal procedures and all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated. Quote customers, validate orders prior to testing, and review final reports.
Responsible for $3M in annual sales, including over 45,000 tensile samples per year
Manage 15 direct reports and provide quarterly reviews for all
Ensure fast turnaround time and on time delivery. Over half of tensile tests require next day results.
Be the technical expert for the Portland site, and provide technical support for other IMR labs, including Singapore and Suzhou, China.
Talk with customers and provide quotes within a timely manner
Review purchase orders through the login process
Review/correct difficult test records and review final reports
Organize weekly department meetings for each department
Write procedures and ensure proper training
Complete audit checklists and ensure areas are always audit ready
Write CapEx justification plans for new equipment and oversee installation.
Provide training and development to testing personnel. Ensure staff is up to date on new and updated/ revised procedures and standards.
Responsible for the monthly reporting of key metrics and the development / implementation of action plans to meet company goals.
Leads change and Continuous Improvement activities throughout the department
Ensures the safety of the personnel in the facility with appropriate PPE, training and assembly aides.
Strong technical and interpersonal skills. Solid experience in leadership and team building. Excellent presentation skills, both oral and written.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or related field.
3-5 years of experience in technical role or commensurate experience, working in a high-volume testing or manufacturing environment.
Previous working experience managing employees
Knowledge of tensile testing
Experience working with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
Excellent communication skills

IMR Test LabsIthaca has an immediate need for a lab intern to assist with customer testing projects for our busy materials testing lab. IMR provides materials testing for a wide range of diverse industries and this intern position will work across our chemistry, metallurgy and mechanical labs for approximately twenty hours per week.
An ideal candidate will have one to two years of undergraduate study in chemistry, engineering or science and some hands-on laboratory experience or related experience.
As an intern you will prepare samples for testing and perform analyses using various instruments, & prepare samples. A large part of this role will include formatting data sheets with test results from long term client projects.
Excellent proficiency with Excel (advanced or expert), ability to work on multiple projects independently and with a team, and a self-motivated approach to working in a fast-pasted environment are also required.

IMR Test Labs has an immediate need for experienced machinists to join our team. We have openings for machinists in our Ithaca, NY location.
Our machinists perform independent work in the machine shop by operating all equipment according to quality and safety standards and in compliance with company, customer or industry specifications, including: manual mill, manual lathe, CNC mill, CNC lathe, and saws. They also operate CNC machines to fabricate parts, provide specimens and fixtures for testing to other departments, & provide machining services for outside customers as needed. In addition our machinists interface with customers as necessary to assure that a high level of on time delivery and customer satisfaction is met. If you are interested in a machinist position with variety and diverse work, our materials test labs may be the place for you.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, 3 - 5 years of experience in the field of machining, or an equivalent field, with some apprenticeship work, and the ability to read diagrams and related materials. Experience machining composites is highly desirable. In addition, machinists must be able to frequently lift, push, and pull objects that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
